Brazilian Jiu‑Jitsu, taught with structure, care, and responsibility

I AM BECAUSE WE ARE

BOTHO is a place to practise together — and build capability through shared effort.

ABOUT BOTHO

BOTHO was created to make participation possible — in training, in community, and in everyday life.

Many people want to train, belong, and grow, but are held back by stress, isolation, unsafe environments, or a lack of structure.

We use Brazilian Jiu‑Jitsu as a shared practice to work on those barriers. Not as spectacle or competition alone, but as a disciplined way to develop calm under pressure, mutual respect, and responsibility toward others.

Over time, this practice shapes how people carry themselves on the mat and beyond it.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

BOTHO is built around a stable training rhythm.

Sessions are coached.

Group sizes are intentionally limited.

The format stays consistent.

Training is serious and progressive, while the environment remains calm and well-run.

PROGRAMMES

BOTHO Essentials

The entry point at BOTHO, designed primarily for people new to Brazilian Jiu‑Jitsu.

Essentials introduces how training works: movement basics, safety, etiquette, and pace.
It establishes a clear foundation for continued practice.

BOTHO Fundamentals

The core training programme.

Fundamentals is where regular training happens. Sessions are coached, structured, and progressive, with clear expectations and a consistent format. It supports people at the start of their practice and remains relevant as training becomes more demanding.

BOTHO Focused Sessions

Different tempos within and beyond the Fundamentals programme.

Some sessions emphasise calm, precision, and attention. Others emphasise pace, pressure, and sustained effort. All sessions follow the same technical framework; pace and intensity vary.

BOTHO Community Sessions

The cultural layer of BOTHO.

Community Sessions are hosted by BOTHO and in collaboration with partners such as Inclusive Combat and other community organisations. They sit alongside training and support reflection, routine-building, and connection.

WHO YOU'LL FIND HERE

BOTHO brings together people who would not normally train in the same room.

Beginners and experienced practitioners.

People training for personal growth and people training with competitive intent.

LGBTQ+ adults.

Neurodivergent adults.

Newcomers to the city.

People returning to physical practice after a long break.

People for whom cost, confidence, or unstable circumstances have made participation difficult.

Everyone trains under the same standards.

A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

BOTHO exists to strengthen participation, belonging, and everyday capability.

We operate as a for‑profit social enterprise. The work must sustain itself to remain reliable over time.

Programme fees support the studio and the people running it. Partnership pathways make it possible for more people to take part, while keeping the programme structured and consistent.

Profit keeps the work possible. Impact is why it exists.

THE WAY THE STUDIO RUNS

Everything at BOTHO is intentional.

Sessions are scheduled in advance and clearly described. Participants know what a session involves before stepping on the mat.

Group Sizes

Group sizes are limited, and coaches set the pace and context of each session. Clear standards apply to everyone, including hygiene, conduct, and safety.

Social Contract

Clean mats, personal hygiene, and respectful behaviour are expected as part of training. These standards are actively maintained to keep the space safe and focused.

Space

Arrival and departure are structured so sessions begin and end calmly. The space remains focused for participants and considerate of the neighbourhood it belongs to.
